Congrats! You are on the way to starting your hospitality career! Wondering how to start? Stay awhile, and I will give you a few tips on some of the most popular and vital positions!
Apply For an Internship
Many management companies offer internships at their hotels in various departments such as HR, Operations, Food and Beverage, and Sales. An internship will give you the opportunity to explore hospitality career opportunities within the industry and could lead to a full-time job offer! If you are still curious about other departments, ask if you can shadow other departments during your downtime.
Apply to be a Front Desk Associate
Working a hotel front desk job will give you face-to-face experience with your guests and exposure to working with all departments- housekeeping, sales, engineering, food and beverage, etc. This position is great for you if you are a good communicator and multitasker. This position will start your hospitality career and give you exposure to every department and the opportunity to connect with individuals at your company and outside.
Apply to be a Sales Coordinator
This role is an entry-level role in the sales department. Some may take this route after being a front desk agent or post-college for a business or hospitality graduate. This position is responsible for the administration of the sales department. An individual in this role would handle calls and email requests for meeting rooms, corporate travel, and/or group rooms. The information would then be transferred to the Director of Sales or General Manager. The skills learned from this role could earn you a promotion or spark an interest in you to become a sales manager. Landmark Hotel Group offers a Sales Manager in Training program for their associates who are ready to take the next step in their hospitality careers.
Apply to be a Room Attendant
In an entry-level housekeeping hotel job, you learn how to clean rooms, manage your time, and pay close attention to the details. Without this position, our hotels would not run smoothly and be able to accommodate our valued guests. After gaining experience from this job, you may want to be a rooms inspector or even a housekeeping supervisor or manager!
Still unsure? Come into one of our properties and talk with a manager! We would be happy to give you an overview of our hotels and what a day in the life looks like!
