Landmark Hotel Group is proud to announce President Akhil Jain’s inclusion on the Virginia 500 Power List. Each year, Virginia Business publishes the Virginia 500. This publication recognizes 500 of Virginia’s most powerful and influential leaders in the state. There are 20 industry categories with multiple leaders from each industry represented. Akhil is recognized in the Hospitality and Tourism category.

Making the 2022 Virginia Power List

Akhil’s recognition on this list was based on company revenues, the number of employees he oversees, industry prominence, and participation on board memberships and philanthropies. Akhil attained his Bachelor of Science in commerce from the University of Virginia and his Master’s in hospitality management from Cornell.
Akhil has over 25 years of operational and development experience in hospitality. He worked his way up through the company serving in different roles to prepare to take over as President from his father, Raj Jain. Prior to his current role, he oversaw the finance and development activities of the company. He has successfully held numerous positions in resort hotel operations, working his way from a line-level team member to General Manager.
When interviewed for Virginia Business, Akhil was asked about what it takes to be a success. He responded, “grit and determination are the most important ingredients for success.”
Richard Foster, Editor of Virginia Business, refers to the power list as “like the Fortune 500, but instead of focusing on companies, it’s about people.” He goes on to mention that they keep track of leaders and executives in the state across 20 different industries. The final list is created based on research and less on nominations.
Foster also noted the representation of leaders from different Virginia regions. Of the 500 executives and leaders, 39.6% were from Northern Virginia, 28.9% from Central, and 19% from Hampton Roads.

Growing Landmark Hotel Group

Since becoming President of Landmark Hotel Group, Akhil has grown the company to 11 hotels, with another hotel in the pipeline. The new Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Virginia Beach Town Center is the most recent addition to the portfolio. Akhil oversees close to 400 associates and has been a board member at CHKD, United Way of South Hampton Roads, and the Coliseum Central Business Improvement District Inc. in Hampton.

This program aims to engage team members to volunteer and donate to the local community. The team recently partnered with the United Way of South Hampton Roads and participated in “A Day of Caring” and will launch “A Month of Giving” in October.
Several years ago, Akhil coined the phrase “Where you Belong” as part of the Landmark philosophy.
